Petia, I’m excited to have this conversation. Let’s begin by talking about your clarity journey. How did you arrive at this moment, interview, and sharing of your message?
I feel like clarity is something that I used to always pray for because I thought that it will change everything. It’s the clarity of who I am, why am I here, and what I’m supposed to be doing. It’s like, “Why the heck am I even here?” Any single time that we get these glimpses of clarity, it is life-giving and heart-opening. For most of my life, I was outsourcing that. I was looking into others like, “What are other people doing?” I try to find myself through that. Although that is beautiful when we see it as an inspiration, a possibility, but not when we see that as the only way, then unfortunately that’s what I was doing for decades because I felt lost and didn’t know who I am.
Everything felt like in a fog. What helped me to spark that clarity was realizing when I look around me that that’s not the life I want to live because with my unpronounceable name and my accent is from the Czech Republic, a very small town, when I was growing up, you wouldn’t even hear of clarity. It’s not something you ever talk about. I grew up in a lot of scarcity, feeling that I’m not enough and looking to others for what to do. When I was eighteen, I run away from home and attempted suicide because I said, “If this is life, I don’t want to live it.” You can tell I didn’t succeed. It took me on this path of always running from home, myself, one relationship and another relationship, one job, another job, going to school, and always externally looking.
When I was almost 30 years old, I realized that I keep asking others who am I and how I should live. I’m like, “If I don’t know, how they’re supposed to know? If I don’t like myself, how should others?” That’s when I started the internal journey. Thankfully, I found Louise Hay. That helped me so much because I feel like she and all the authors that she has in her publishing company, and Dr. Jody Spencer and Dr. Wayne Dyer, Gabby Bernstein, and many other great authors, give me hope. That was the first time that I didn’t try to model someone and be like someone, but I started this inner self-inquiry from a place of curiosity versus judgment. That’s how I got now.
We’re going to talk about how that turned into your work in a second. In this show, we believe in helping our clients master their clarity. Some people say, “Masters in clarity, so you are the master of clarity?” It’s like, no. We guide our clients to be the masters of their clarity because there’s no such thing as outside clarity. There are outside guidance and thinking frameworks, but it’s almost like there are containers in which you can dig for your clarity, but you bring the ingredients.
There are a lot of recipes out there, but you bring the ingredients. Each one of us brings the ingredients. We mix something with those ingredients, but they have to come from within. I love the journey and as we were chatting before the show about the clarity journey, but there’s usually not a lot of clarity in the journey until the end. There is a lot of sometimes darkness, confusion, or a glimpse of clarity, and then back under the wave and so on and forth.
You’ve been able to find your light. At eighteen, you walked away, left, and run away from darkness. It meant to your home at the time, but it was darkness. You’ve been able to find, walk and step into your light, but you didn’t stop there. How did you turn that journey into your light to what I understand is helping women journey to walk and step into their lights? It’s because I think there are three steps. Those are journey, walk, and then own it.
That’s where it all has to start. It has to start with the own embodiment. What we are desiring to see in the world, we get to become that. That’s how I was able to transmute the darkness, pain, and suffering into something more meaningful because I wanted to believe that there is more to life than what we are being told, shown, or conditioned to. I became the embodiment of what I wanted to see in the world, who I wanted to be as a woman and as a leader, then I started to have people. This is many years ago when they started to tell me like, “I feel so good around you. You have such good energy.”
What we are desiring to see in the world, we get to become that. Share on XMany years decade ago, I’m like, “What are you talking about? What energy?” It’s like starting to notice and being open to how people are seeing you. They can recognize what you cannot yet see in yourself. I then was able to bring it into my business, my life, through a podcast, and retreats because I realized that I’m not the only one who is feeling this way and the tools that I’m using for clarity and empowerment, to live the fulfilling light, creating the abundance.
I don’t have some secret that was given to me and lock it behind the door. It’s something that can be shown. It’s something that can be taught not by telling, but by showing. First, you become the light, and then you become activated. That’s what I became when my business activated other people. I became the one that I needed. I became the one who is bringing hope and light. I’m the one who is teaching.
It’s who you wish you had met when you were eighteen.
If I would, I would probably not be who I am. I was asked earlier in an interview, “What would you tell your nineteen-year-old self?” I’m like, “There are things that I would tell her, but I wouldn’t tell her to change anything because then I wouldn’t be sitting who I am in this place.”
That’s a good reminder for whoever is reading that might go through the darkness. You never know when you meet people on their journey. If everything’s falling apart or everything is as bad as it can be, keep on going and moving forward because with every step you go through that darkness is closer to the light. I love to give my audiences some tangible and actionable things to take away because it’s very nice to talk high level of getting to the light, “What the heck? I’m in the darkness. How can I surface them up? What can I do for 5 or 3 minutes, a micro action that will get me past?” For some people, maybe it will help someone survive.
Thank you for asking that because sometimes you are reading a blog, you feel motivated and are like, “Good for you, but what do I do?” I don’t want people to feel inspired and motivated, but to have something that they can do about their life. Here are the two things that helped me to create immense clarity in my life. The first one was getting very clear on what are my core values. It doesn’t matter how many times you have done core values exercise before. You’re a different person now than you were a week ago or yesterday. What helped me was to take a big piece of paper and divide it in two. On one hand, I wrote down the things I don’t stand for, and on the other side, what I do stand for.
For example, I don’t stand for hate. I stand for life. I won’t stand for being cheap. I stand for generosity. I won’t stand for cheating. I stand for loyalty. Sometimes it’s easier for us to say what we don’t want than what we do want. Write first what you don’t want to see in the world. What is aggravating you? What is upsetting you? What is frustrating you? What hurts you? I’m happily married to my husband, but before that, I had a narcissistic ex-husband who was cheating on me and ex-partners who were cheating and hurting me physically. I knew what I didn’t want. I wanted someone who was loyal, loving, family-oriented, and all of that. I put it on paper.
You then write twenty things on each side, always the opposite of each other. Take a highlighter or colored pen and highlight the three things that you stand for that are non-negotiable for you on the right side. When I look at it, I saw that I stand for loyalty, generosity, and growth, which is nice. The next step is the most important step. You have to take an inventory of your life because when I look at my life and ask myself, “Do I live in a growth mindset, generosity, or loyalty? Am I accepting or settling in something less than this?” nothing in my life reflected that.
Of course, I was feeling stuck and depressed. Little by little I ask myself, “What can I safely change?” It’s not like, “Screw this, I’m out. I’m divorcing. I’m leaving my job, and I’m moving to Hawaii.” That’s your dream. Go for it, but we don’t want to change and turn everything around like quitting. We wanted to ask ourselves, “What can I safely do to change this today?” I wrote a little note about my three core values.
I put them in the mirror, in the bathroom, my office, my wallet, and everywhere because you get to recondition your mind and keep checking in with yourself. This was a super important tool, and it is still very important to me. I do teach it to my one-on-one clients because if you don’t know what you stand for, you fall for everything.
Transformation is not about living in your current cocoon, dumping everything, the husband, kids, dogs, the job, and moving to a new reality. The deepest transformations are those that can be initiated and expanded from within, and through that internal transformation, you don’t already change your world, but you change the world around you. You can change a marriage, the relationship, and the experience of your children. You can change a job that you hated into something you love without ever quitting or changing the actual context. That’s beautiful. What impact do you want to have in the world when all is said and done?
When all is said and done, I want to be remembered as someone who created a generational healing and world-changing abundance. I truly believe that when great people make great money, we can make an immense impact. I feel like it’s time that we shift and change the balance of where the world is heading. There are many amazing, beautiful people who are gifted and they don’t know how to create abundance because there were never thought and shown. They lived in scarcity. They were taught about money, things that are not true. I truly believe that when we can create abundance for people who are soulful and heart-centered, we will change the world. That’s my legacy, and that’s when I leave.
What do you have going on in 2023 that is just starting?
In my personal life, we are intending to grow our family with my husband. That’s most important as a woman for me. That’s at the forefront of my heart. Secondly, with our company, we used to do retreats and a lot of events in person, and with the family, all of this is shifting. We are focusing on creating online experiences and social success experiences. We launched our book which became a bestseller. I’m focusing on creating abundance. We are going to be launching an academy, mastermind, and all of them online. Those are the things that I’m truly looking forward to because we are empowering leaders and visionaries on how to create more abundance and impact.
You’ve mentioned the authors and the writings of Louise Hay. Is there one special book that you would say, “If you haven’t read anything, start with this?”
The universe has your back from Gabby Bernstein. It was the first book ever that gave me permission to not push and hustle, but to trust, surrender and allow. That changed my view of the world and gave me permission to breathe.
It’s to stop running away. Any parting thoughts? Also, share with us where can people find you.
The one thing that I wanted to say is we get to change from the inside, and the outside can change. It reminded me of a quote from Dr. Wayne Dyer, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” That breathed life into me when I was still in a place that I don’t want it to be. When you look at things differently, the world will change. Instead of trying to change your circumstances, try to look at things first differently. That’s what I would love to leave people with because it helped me tremendously on my journey. To connect with me, the easiest way is on my Instagram and my website. Both of them are Petia Kolibova. Those are my two favorite places, plus my podcast Unapologetically Abundant. That’s where I reside, teach, and thrive.
Thank you for spending time with us from this place that you’ve brought to the world, this container where you help women come home. It sounds like you run away for many years and you have been able to come home to you and now make a home for a bigger family, which I can see it’s happening already. Thank you for your time.
Thank you so much for having me.
